The 3rd Annual Fine Arms Invitational

The Rod & Gun Club of the Union League of Philadelphia will be holding The Second Annual Fine Arms Invitational on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays, Coplay, P.A.  This shoot is held in conjunction with Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays & The National Rifle Association and it is a truly premier Sporting event. As an invitational, participation will be strictly limited to the 120 registrants. Proceeds from this event will benefit several charities, including Camp Compass & the NRA Foundation.

What makes this event unique is that participants are encouraged to bring their own shotguns, but various stations are hosted by premier shotgun companies and participants shoot that company’s guns at that station. Last year’s participants included Krieghoff, Caesar Guerini, Beretta, Dakota Arms & Griffin & Howe. Griffin & Howe featured several lines including AyA, Blaser & Arrieta.  The ammo was donated by Remington. This year’s line-up will be equally exciting!

Most of us are shotgun enthusiasts.  This event worked so well last year because it gave our participants the opportunity to shoot several fine guns next to their own- where they could see and feel the difference between brands, models and gauges.  We also enjoy reading about fine guns to discussing them with our friends.  To build on this, we are creating a Fine Arms Invitational website.  This professionally developed site will have a Shooting Sportsman look & feel and will feature the companies that are hosting shooting stations and offer a detailed write up of the featured guns that participants will be offered at the event.

Another important aspect of this event is the novice clinic – there are few better venues for introducing someone to sporting clays and the world of fine shotguns. Last year Dave Butz, NRA Board Member and shooting instructor was kind enough to lead this clinic. Dave is a retired All-Pro defensive tackle for the Washington Redskins who played in three Super Bowls and is a great supporter of this sport. He plans to return for the 2011 event.
